Life after breast biopsy

by Bree1059, May 24, 2009 08:09AM
September 20, 2007 I had a breast biopsy & the nodule in my breast was completely removed. The results was that it was not cancer, it was Fibrocystic Disease. I now go to my doctor , who is a Breast Specialist every 8 months for a sonogram & exam. I seen my doctor 7 months ago and he said that every thing looked great and I had nothing to worry about. The other day I was my monthly self breast exam after hitting my breast I had the surgery on , I noticed the same pain radiating that I first hand when they found the nodule. I also found a few small spots that look like a small scar, kinda like if you have a sore and irritate it , it leaves that small indention in the skin & small hard knots. I called my doctor and his nurse said she wasn't concerned because my breast isn't black or blue and the knots are small.

I am really worried because I was told women who have these fibrocystic changes and women who have biopsy's are at a higher risk for cancer. What does this sound like to you ? Do you think the nurse is right and it's nothing but the fibrocystic changes or would you be a little more concerned?

The increaed risk would be minimal but we should NEVER assume that since one finding was proven benign everything else will be also. If I were you; and I don't think waiting 1 month will make any difference; I would ask if they could move your appointment up ... they may have a cancellation and can get you in sooner. I don't think that this is necessarily anything other than the Fibrocystic condition but I would never say that with 100% certainty. If you do have to wait then I think it will be OK but if you can get in sooner it will help your comfort level.    Take care .....
