Lifecycle of Antigens

RE: CA27-29 test

What is the lifecycle of the cancer antigen being tested in this test?

How does it get off the cancer cell membrane and into the blood?

Does it only get into the blood from live cancer cells or does it get recycled nto the blood when the cancer cell dies?

Once it gets into the blood how is it processed?

When the cancer cells stop proliferating, how long does it take to clear the bood of this antgen marker?

Give a time frame of the processing from the time the antigen reaches the blood until it is broken down and desposed of.

The count had been going up every month for five mkonths.I am trying to assess the meaning of a 10 point drop after a four week alternate treatment.

Thanking you in advance, Dorf

Dear Dorf, It is difficult to answer your questions because you are thinking of the CA 27-29 tumor marker as an exclusive marker for breast cancer.  CA 27

I do not see an answer to the question. How long does the marker stay in the blood? What is it's lifecycle regardless of what it may be maarking?
