Looking at having a reconstruction flap done

I'm lookin at having free tram flap done. But I was a smoker in the past.  Does that take my chances of having a flap done. Is there a time frame that you have to be smoke free.

I don't really know about whether or not smoking has an effect on the procedure, your doc should know.  However, I do know that the surgery is long and extensive.  You should probably try to quit before the surgery.  I know that my mom always says that you need to be able to clear your lungs after surgery (she was an out-patient surgical nurse), which means you need to be able to get your breath deep and cough a lot.  Coughing and tram do not really go well together since they take out stomach muscle, but it is doable. I've written some info on my personal surgery under another topic.  You can look up my situation there.  I do not smoke.  You will be in the hospital at least 4 days if not 5 of which you will not be able to smoke.  That also might be a consideration for you.

I wish you a good surgeon and a beautiful outcome, whatever you choose.
