Low platelet count

by Crystal85, Apr 10, 2002 12:00AM
Have been treated for stage I breast cancer.  OB/GYN has informed me my platelet count is 114k and said I should have oncologist recheck it.  What does this mean and should I expect some kind of treatment?  The only information I have been able to find is when this is caused by chemo and I haven't had any.
thanks for your help, Crystal

Dear Crystal, Lowered platelets could be caused by many things, the most obvious given your recent cancer history would be to say chemotherapy or radiation therapy could also be a cause.  If these were not part of your treatment further questioning and review of your medications, and medical history would need to happen to determine the cause.  This count is not low enough to require treatment, but should be evaluated.  Your oncologist would be the specialist to evaluate this for you.
