Lump but ultra sound negative

by Shanzoe160, Oct 15, 2009 01:17PM
I found a lump on October 11 and scheduled an appointment with the Dr for the 13. On the 14th I was having an ultra sound. The first Tech took several "pictures" of a dark spot, and I know this because I was looking. She came back and said my Dr. had marked a different spot to look at, and seemed annoyed. Another Tech? Doctor? came in and looked at the whole breast but didnt see anything. She was somewhat abrupt and said everything was normal, and since they couldn't see anything a mamogram (mammogram) or biopsy was unneccessary. However, she did not say what the bump was, which she, the first tech, and my gyno all felt. Am I wrong to ask for a Biopsy or mamogram (mammogram)? I don't feel satified with my results.

Dear Shanzoe160, You might want to first discuss the results and how they relate to your physical examination with your doctor first, they could better advise you as to whether further evaluation is necessary.  If you are still concerned, you could always seek a second opinion.

Hi, I have a similar situation.  I am 25 years old, last october my gyno felt a lump on the underside of my right breast and ordered an ultrasound.  The technician felt the lump, but my results were normal.  This year (two days ago infact), I went to a new gynocologist, she informed me that the lump is scar tissue, most likely from the weight of my breast causing the tissue to stretch and scar over time.

Oh, also as the Doc's Answer suggests, a second opion could really ease your mind.  I had been stressing about my lump for the past year, even though I was told it was normal.  Speaking to a gynocologist who could give me an explanation for my non-cancerous mass really helped!
