Lupron vs. Oophorectomy

Lupron vs. Oophorectomy

Hi,

I'm new to the forum but have a similar question to one that was asked before....I have been having lupon injections for 4 years so I can take arimidex for stage 1 invasive ductal carinoma.  I was recently told that even though I have reached my five year survival mark that I need to continue homone treatment.  I'm wondering why my doctor doesn't suggest an oophorectomy rather than continuing the lupron injections.  I'm 41 and I am not going to have biological children.  If my cancer was er+, pr+ and her2neu+, I think it would make sense and be much easier on me to remove the ovaries.  I have suggested this to my doctor but was told that 'we simply don't do prophylactic surgery.  I have gained a lot of weight with the lupron injections and have severe bone pain that is managed with cymbalta.
Thoughts???

Given everything you've just said, I'd go one step further and have a hysterectomy. I'm facing those shots right now and will opt for removal of the "whole package" since ovarian cancer runs in my family. Not to mention my history of BC.

Good luck with your decision :)
