Lymph nodes

by 2kidsmom, May 23, 2003 12:00AM
Hi. I had written about six mon ago. 6 mon ago i had a lump looked at by a general surgeon (afer having a mammogram & ultrasound performed).  At that appt.he discovered not only the one lump I pointed out to him but also another one.  His feeling was that it is somekind of fibro something(sorry didn't get the spelling) & to wait 6months & wait and see if there are any changes.  I told him that I was always feeling them (scared habit at this point)~He told me not to feel them any longer &  try not to think about it...fine...but was not happy with that answer.  I did stop checking though.
Okay now today I had an ultrasound of the area.{left breast}.The tech did the test & then came back w/ the radiologist & he did the ultrasound test ~his findings were one lump which is located at about 10oclock upper quad, very tender is a fatty lump & the other lump at 2oclock is a lymph node.Along w/all this I have a nipple discharge when nipple is squeezed. My concern is that there are times when it is tender to put my arm down against my breast. Im 34 yrs old & NOT in good physical health.  I am in the process of being checked for different diseases: ms,cidp; myasthenia gravis;chronic fatigue.  I have massive fatigue, weakness in arms and legs, numbness in left arm, lighheadedness & several other symptoms & now i am concerned about all this
QUESTIONS:can numbness in arm be caused by lump in breast?
Is it normal for lumps to be lymph nodes in the breast?
The radiol said hes not concerned if I haven't noticed change~but the surgeon told me to stop checking regulary! I have a fam hist.

Dear 2kidsmom:  1) Numbness in the arm is not generally caused by a lump in the breast.  On the other hand, if there were a large lump in the arm pit, it could cause numbness or pain in that arm.  2) It is not abnormal to have a lymph node in the breast. 3) You should continue to examine yourself but not every day.  Once a month is recommended.  Changes can include spontaneous nipple discharge (discharge WITHOUT sqeezing) that is bloody or clear and sticky, or redness and swelling.

Since you are being worked up for all these other problems, it seems reasonable to see what the outcome is and then determine what is related to what.  Try to keep your stress level down.  Stress can make many conditions worse.
