LymphNodes

Hi All,

Well I didn't do the biopsy after all b/c my lump shrank and they couldn't find out...so hopefully it was nothing serious.
But I was thinking that they did find a lymph node and they say that is normal to have, but could a lymph node increase due to hormones and other factors and then decrease in size?  I believe that is what happened to me...

Can someone shed some light on this issue.

Thanks

during my periods I sometimes get a little swelling of a lymph node (I think that is what it is).  I have been getting this my whole life.  Also, as the doctor stated, you can get swollen lymph nodes whenever you get an infection.  I once got a huge one on the back of my neck. I ran to the doctor who said it was a lymph node and asked if I was sick at all.  I wasn't.  However, about a month later I got a very bad virus which affected all the joints in my body.  It took months to feel normal again...however, the swelling went away when all my symptons did!

Ditto on the lymph node comments. I often get a swollen node and sensitivity under my left arm. I've had it checked with ultra sound and it was nothing to worry about.

Sorry to jump thread, but I wanted to let you gals know that I had my consult with the radiologist and surgeon at the breast center today, and she and he and me, have agreed that I will have two lumpectomies on my left breast in about a month.  They will examine the tissue for ILC.  It turns out that the second stereo biopsy I had was a bad sampling, so the doc just wants to remove the area, as well as the area they found to have LCIS.  Glad to have a plan now.  I am a bit concerned how my breast will look afterwards, because the calcifications are in two different quadrants.  I have heard that the areas will fill back in with tissue.  I have requested general anethesia, because I had a pretty unpleasant experience with the stereo biopsy.

Thanks for letting us know. It sounds like a good plan.

Happy holidays.

Hi,
I am glad you have a plan. I had two lumpectomies on the same breast last week-3:00 and 7:00 - and it came out fine. Good luck. Merry Christmas.

Hi,

So, when you had your lumpx's did they do needle wire localization before the surgery?  I am wondering how exactly this is done.  Are you sitting up, laying down, what??  Is it similar to a stereotactic biopsy, because that hurt.  Do they give you anything to relax you?  When they take you to surgery, do they cover your breasts, or is everything 'out there'?  The surgeon said I would have two wires in my breast on the way to surgery, and I didn't think to ask any specifics. I'm sure they have this figured out, but my imagination is fertile.    I would appreciate any info....  Thanks, d.

Hi,
First and foremost, make sure you sign all consent forms before the day of surgery!! Since my MRI results showed 2 more areas of concern, my surgeon called me with a new plan. I agreed, but did not know I had to sign anything. On the day of surgery, after they placed the wires, I wanted something to relax me. There was a 4 hour wait between putting in the wires and the operation. A bit unusual. They did not hurt, but it was a little uncomfortable, nothing a relaxer wouldn't help. Because I did not sign a new consent form yet, the anesthesiologist told me he could not give me anything to relax me because I had to be of "sound mind"- a legal formality- when I saw the surgeon and signed the consent form- which wouldn't be until right before the surgery. My surgeon had lots of surgeries before mine and could not be reached in advance. Had I known this, I would have gone to his office ahead of time and signed everything.
Aside from that, you are covered up with a robe. No one will see anything. They even give you a warm blanket. Make sure you take a book. If you have a Sentinel Node Biopsy, they have to wait 3 hours for the dye to work. That is another reason I had to wait. All doable with a little relaxant.
The procedure itself is okay. They numb your breast before they inset the wire, so you do not feel anything. You are lying down.
I also had two lumps removed from two different quadrants. I cannot see any difference in size at all.
Just sign everything in advance and ask for a relaxer and you will be fine.
Good luck. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. Everyone has been so helpful to me, I am so happy to be able to help.

Hi,
My experience might be very different from yours. The surgeon inserted the dye for the SBN at 7:00 am.  I had the wire inserted between 8 and 9. I should have been taken for surgery at 10:00 am- 3 hours after dye was inserted- and everything would have been fine. The wait would only have been an hour between surgery and the wire insertion. My surgery was delayed until 1:30- with no medicine to relax me.
Perhaps you can ask your surgeon if you will taken for surgery immediately after wire insertion. If not, take a book and ask for a relaxer, and you will be fine.
