Lymphodema

Had bilateral mastectomy and I am having 8 chemo treatments .My oncologist said I do not need a Port place on my neck. The chemo nurse is using my left arm for intravenous infusion. On that side the surgeon took two lymph nodes and I am afraid I will have a high risk of getting Lymphodema after she poke me in the arm 8 times, please, advise

Hi alidi, my gosh but it's been a long time since you've posted. Do you have cancer again?

Do not let them stick you in the arm if nodes have been removed. You can have a port put into your chest for this. It's also easier on the veins.

I'm saying a prayer for you my friend.

It's been so long since you posted, but we all remember you so well and we were sure that you were doing just fine!
I am utterly shocked that you had to have a bilateral mastectomy and now you are also having chemo treatment....
Yes, Sue Young is right, don't let them use the intravenous infusion in your left arm.
Please let us know how you are doing...we all care very much for you!
Take care dear friend..

Hi,

I too was surprised to hear that your situation has changed since we last heard from you.

When you get a chance, please fill us in on what has occurred since you last posted--we care!

You will be in our thoughts and prayers,
bluebutterfy

p.s. A loved one of mine had a port put in. It was a minor procedure, and she loved not having to be stuck all the time, not just for chemo but for  bloodwork as well.

Hi girls:
Yes I was, I was feeling good, remember?, I had a Lumpectomy and Radiation, stage 1,ER/PR positive, HER negative, well , I noticed two lumps in my right axila, after byopsis , they were positive. the surgeon
sugested a radical mastectomy, because they have found another cyst,
that after all , it was DCIS, all in my right breast, I decided  a double mastectomy,, my left breast was healthy and.NO METASTASIS, Thanks God! I will have 8 rounds of CMF, I already had one, and they stuck a .needdle in my left arm.I know about Lymphodema, but my Onco. says, it is not necessary a placement of the port,I value, your advise, and will not
let them do it. I have been thru a lot, and the least I need is to get Lymphodema.I truly apreciate your advise, I will let you know. God Bless !

Hi BB:
I was writing from my phone before, now I had the internet installed.
I am going thru a lot despair. I do not have the support my daughter promised. She is against my decision of canceling Chemo this week until they place the Port next week. the Onco doctor/ nurse are people with a huge, HUGE
attitude and ego.I am in a constant battle with them. My daughter is supossed to be my advocate, but she is not! I am loosing the energy I need
to battle this C. Do you think I should give in and let them stuck me in my
arm two more times? (they need a blood test before pacing the PORT)
I have always value your opinion.

I am sorry you are experiencing feelings of dispair!

Since you feel you are losing the energy you need to fight your BC, I would suggest you pick your battles carefully, and use what  energy you do have to fight hard in regard to the ones that matter the most, in terms of your health and/or emotional well-being.

Perhaps you can draw some strength from the people here who understand and care about what you are going through. I would also suggest you look into a breast cancer support group in your area. It could  help by providing some of the support you need, and would also be a way to make some new friends--I doubt the members of such a group would be cold and unfeeling!

Hang in there,
bb

Thanks for your prompt answer BLUE B, that is an excellent idea, Friday,
I will arrive earlier and will contact them.I always have been positive, but when a love one
treats her dog better, Sadness and depression is uncontrolable.
I talked to a Nutrionist from the Hospital, they will not allow me to take
my vitamines, while in Chemo, only Vitamine D and a probiotic.I think a B -COMPLEX will help my ANC count.( I will talk to my Onco on friday).

God, I am really sorry on Katerina's passing
