Male nipple area

I am the dad of a 13 year old boy. He is now beginning to show signs of puberty....pubic and underarm hair. However, I have some concern on this one area, the nipples. He has discovered a small lump which seems to feel like a mass of soft tissue right behind the left nipple. He has some tenderness there however no pain. He has been touching it alot wondering what it is, to the point there is a small amount of secretion relieved when he did this.I asked if the secretion was of any smell, thinking it was possibly a cyst, and he said he didnt think so.
I seem to have read somewhere that teens get this "lump" at the nipples, but cant seem to find any information on that here online to verify what I think I have heard.
I would appreciate any information on this, Iam not sure if it is just teen developement or something to be concerned with.
Thank you for your anticipated help on this very concerned issue. I wait for your reply.

Hello,

i am 16 years old and last nite i began feeling pain in my left nipple. it feels rather like a bruise, however, today when i inspected the area i noticed that the area directly underneath the nipple and carrying on past the nipple to the left was an area of firmness, which i think the skin is free to move over but i am not sure. it is not painful intill just the slightest pressure is applied, when the pain resembles that of a bruise.
i was wondering if anybody had any ideas what this could be. i have booked an appointment with the doctor for as soon as possible just incase.

thank you

Dear ronn:  Since this is a breast cancer forum, I have not been able to locate any information about this situation as it relates to boys.  It is common in girls, at puberty, to develop a lump and even nipple discharge.  We would recommend that you contact your son's pediatrician.  He/she will know more about development in children and will be able to advise you more appropriately.
