I just spoke with my GYN's nurse and was told that the doc wants me to have a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound as a followup to the mammorgram I had a few weeks ago. When I asked for more infomation, I was told that no measuring had been done so she didn't know anything about size (Is that normalNormal saline flush?) but that the report said there was a "mild to moderate thickening" in my left breast and "moderate conspicuous assymetrical density". She also said something about it saying "likely due to technical technique" which I assume means the way the mammographer performed the test and something about the report saying that it wasn't likely malignantCancer Gestational trophoblastic disease Lymphoma, malignant - ct scan Malignant melanoma Malignant otitis externa Melanoma of the eye Multiple myeloma Skin cancer, malignant melanoma, but those weren't the exact words she used. Nonetheless, I'm scared. I can't get an appt. till next Monday (which the nurse said was fine) but I want to do this ASAP. What does all of this actually mean?
I should also say that I have fibrocysticFibrocystic breast disease breasts but when I asked the nurse if that could be a factorFactor ix complex she didn't really say anything. She kept talking about possible shadows and calcifications and "hoping for the best". Grrrr...
Hi! I am in the same boat as you...and I think there are a lot of womenWomen's way like us. I was called last week (2 1/2 weeks after my yearly mammogram) and told they wanted me to come in for a follow up. I immediately panicked and began to "worse case scenario" the whole thing. My sister had ductal carcinoma and had a successful mastectomy with no further treatment needed. The doctor assured all of us sisters that this particular form of cancer is not extremely hereditary, but I'm still scared.
The tech that called me said "the tissue just didn't line up quite the same way", and she also said they wanted to re-do the films in case it was a technical thing. I called my OB/GYN, who spent 20 minutes on the phone with me, reassuring me. She said that a call back is not unusual, that it could be folded skin or just a change in the tissue since I'm premenopausal. She said it's normal for breasts to be asymmetrical, and that my report stated "slight asymmetrical density in the right breast". She stated there were no calcifications, microcalcifications, tumors, or masses. She told me she would tell me if I should be worried, and she really wasn't.
Okay, that said....I'm still worried. I've been praying all week about this, and can't wait to get some more answers tomorrow am. My heart is with you, as I have had a miserable week anticipating tomorrow, and every possibility. Having this resolved at the time of my first mammogram would have been great! Have you had your second mammogram?
