Mammogram today:/ petrified!

Hi. I am 40 yrs old and I have my annual mammogram screening today. I am soooo afraid that they are going to find something awful. I have severe anxiety and OCD and have not been able to control these fears for weeks:( Because I go for annual screenings, if they find something wrong, it should be warily enough to treat right? Any feedback would be appreciated. I am freaking out:/ thanks!

I think it is normal to worry. Breast Cancer is Scary. We hear so much about it from the media. They found a lump in my breast on a CT Scan checking for another Cancer I all ready have. I am having an ultrasound and possible biopsy today. Then I go for my weekly treatment for Ovarian Cancer.

I actually worry less because I am living with Multiple Sclerosis and Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer and the BRCA1 mutation which gives me a 87% chance of Breast Cancer. Before 2009 when I was diagnosed with MS I only went to the doctor for my annual stuff. I have learned worry is trying to control the future and I can not. Most of what I worry about never comes true. Other things I did not know to worry about does.

I use to call it the waiting for the other shoe to drop syndrome. I now live and enjoy my life. I do not want to worry. I say now I leave the worrying to the doctors that is what I pay the big medical fees for. Now I am grateful for every moment I have.

I leave in a half hour for the Cancer Hospital. I take my Service Dog Polly a Dalmatian. Everyone wants to wait on me because of Polly. I had 6 nurses fighting over me last week. If they have to take a biopsy so be it. I am not going to worry.

Please don't be afraid...Having annual screening mammograms is so important, even if we feel stressed before doing this test.Since all your previous Mammograms turned out negative, then most probably it will be the same also this year.I think we all feel a little anxious, because we don't  know what the x-ray will show....But as you correctly stated that if something abnormal should appear, then it is caught in time and would be highly curable!
Please let us know (using this same thread) how things are proceeding.
I wish you well and benign findings ! :)
