Mammograms and lumps????????

I went to see my doctor about a lump in my armpit. She is sending me for a mammogram. My concern is, when they do the mammo will they beable to see the lump in my armpit? Or will they have to do other tests. If the mammo is negetive do I worry about the lump?

I have an axillary lump story also. back in march noticed lump in armpit, not sure if it was new or i was just finding it, also not sure if new lipoma since I have 4 other of those.
So went to Dr to check it out. Anyway 7 months later, after 3 ultrasounds, 2 mammograms, "feels" by 5 doctors and a radiologist , 1 vacuum assisted needle biopsy  which came back normal lymph tissue, I still have the lump, sometimes it is tender around it, it is not smaller and I still wonder and consantly feel it. Any comments, stories etc?

Thank you, I have only had one mammogram done so I wasn't sure. I did how ever find another lump or small mass in my right breast. I don't have any inflammation or pain. Just a prickly sensation in my armpit. I go Monday for my Mammogram. Also I have a ICD device in my chesr ( left side ) will this be a problem?

Hi there.

The mammogram test encompasses almost the entire breast tissue, from the chest area up to the axillary tail.  I believe that the mammogram can indeed encompass this area of concern and give you and your doctors an idea regarding the etiology of this lump.

Causes for this would most commonly be fibrocystic disese of the breast or fibroadenomas.  Axillary gland infections can also present with a lump but would be usually accompanied by swelling and inflammation.

If the mammogram is negative, then I believe further tests can be done such as the ultrasound if your doctor deems it necessary.

Regards.
