My surgeon and I were on the same page. She removed most of the mass yesterday. I didn't want to chance a "biopsy" only to find out that the area they got to wasn't the bad part. She told my husband that after it was removed she used ultrasound on it again and saw nothing cancerous. I won't have all the results until Tuesday but she said that on her scale of worry I'm near the bottom to none.
Thanks so much for your quick response. Having to wait and feeling a bit alone it was wonderful to have someone take the time to answer some of my lingering questions. I really appreciated it.
Hi,
Not all lumps show up on an ultrasound or mammogram. Each test has it's limitations and what it can pick up.For example,an ultrasound is better at differentiating between a mass that is solid or fluid filled.
The lumps in your breast could be cysts (fluid filled lumps) or fibroadenomas which are solid ones. The large one could be a "giant fibroadenoma"or a Phyllodes tumor. All these findings,(if this is what they are) are very often benign in nature, but more investigation, including surgery, could be needed.
The breast Surgeon, after examining you and reviewing your films and the radiologist's report, will let you know what is the best type of biopsy you'll be needing to reach a correct diagnosis.
Wishing you all the best and good luck!
