Mastectomy and Lymph Node removal

I had a Mastectomy and lymph node removal on 8/2/10.  The mastectomy scar is healing well but I am experiencing a lot of swelling and pain from where lymph nodes were removed.  Is this normal 2 weeks after surgery?

Please contact your surgeon and let them know this is happening. I did not have this with either of my mastectomies or lymph node removal. Are you doing the "finger walking" up the wall for light exercise of your arm? If the surgeon doesn't listen then tell your oncologist. You may want to see if you can get some physical therapy with a PT that specializes in breast cancer patients.

Please let us know how you're doing :)

I think what you describe is rather normal.

When I had this surgery, and also all lymph nodes removed, I was fine for several days, and only then started feeling discomfort like you describe, especially under my arm, but also burning.

This all passed eventually. It is really important to do these light exercises as SueYoung55 recommended.

best, Katrin

Another thought ..... I had a seroma develop in that area following my surgery. Get on the phone in the morning to let the Surgeon know; there is a solution.   Take care ....
