Microcalcification found & Breast Pain

Microcalcification found & Breast Pain

I am 43 y.o. and just had my add'l view mammo yesterday. Found Microcalcification on my upper right breast. I have no idea if it is clustered or scattered. According to my Radiologist i need a biopsy for further examination though she mentioned that 85% chance of benign. My concern is that i have breast pain & also in my ribs. Does this mean that it is malignant? My 1-1/2 yrs old mammo in another radiologist indicate that i have something "salt" in my upper right breast. Does carrying heavy stuff without wearing a bra cause this calcifications?
thanks for your help!

You can't cause calcifications by doing anything. If you were advised to have a biopsy then the calcifications must be clustered ... they appear normally scattered about within the breast tissue and are of no particular concern. Breast cancer rarely causes any type of pain but breast pain can be present for a variety of reasons and can have nothing to do with any abnormality within the breast itself. Many biopsies done on calcifications do return a benign result but a biopsy is the only way to determine with certainty the true nature of any finding.   Regards ....

thanks for your thoughts.
My additional question is how come in my previous mammo was normal 1-1/2 yrs ago but when i requested my films to bring it to my new radiologist & read the result with the films it says "grain of salt on upper right breast". (forgot the exact sentence) It is the same location where i had my spot magnify views yesterday. I was wondering how come my old radiologist didnt request an addt'l magnify views back then.
thanks again.

It sounds as though there might have been one or two scattered calcifications at that time and they aren't usually a cause for concern .. they are however mentioned on the reports but require no further investigation. I'm sure there was more evidence of some abnormality at this time for the additional views to be taken.  Regards .....

what do you mean by BIRADS 4-5.  i know 4 is suspicious & 5 is highly suspicious. Does this mean that it is in between?

I have never mentioned either BIRADS category in my replies but you are correct that 4 is suspicious and 5 is highly suspicious for malignancy. I'm wondering if you have your appointment for your biopsy or have had it done yet. The meaning of all the terms is not as important as proceeding with the recommendation for biopsy.   Regards ....

Got a letter from the Radiologist the other day. BIRADS 4-5. My appointment with my primary physician is on Monday Jun 28th. I will keep you posted if I will go under needle or open surgery biopsy. I pray that everything will be normal & I am healthy.
God Bless Us All !!!
