Microcalcification

Hi,  I recently went in for a mammogram and was called back to take more pictures.  After taking several pictures, the radiologist concluded that I have liquid calcification in 75% and wasn't sure about the other 25%.  My choices are the return 6 months from now or do a surgical biopsy.  Reason it would be surgical is the calcifications are too high up in the breast  to do the non-invasive biopsy.  He said that there is a good chance that all of them are liquid.  Any suggestions on what to do and why people develop liquid calcification.

I'm sorry but this is a new one to me ... calcification in itself is the hardening of something so I'm not sure what he means by liquid calcification. I also have never heard of an area of the breast that would not be accessible by some type of needle biopsy unless the area were very deep within the tissue. I'm not sure what you would biopsy by the open surgical method if this area is indeed liquid. I would make an appointment with a Breast Surgeon and get his/her opinnion before making any definite decision. You might also request that your films be read by another Radiologist; a second opinion of sorts.    Regards .....
