Microcalcifications Again

by lilkrazy, Nov 20, 2008 01:01PM
I am a 36yr old mom of 2. When I was 32 I felt a lump out of the ordinary that just turned out to be lumps caused from to much caffeine. My doctor at the time felt I should get a mammo so I did. That is the first time they discovered clustered Microcalcifications, in my right breast I had them removed through surgery. I followed up every 6 months for 2 yrs. and thinking all was back to normal and no need for more mammo's I didn't return for 2 yrs. This year I decided I had better get a mammo and went and the clustered Microcalcifications are back, in the right breast. I am scheduled for surgery Dec. 9th to remove it. My concern is why do I feel like this will be an ongoing problem? Will it continue to reoccur? Is there anything that I can do to stop them from coming back? I am concerned with breast cancer, only because of the reocurance  I have done alot of research on this and I know that most turn out to be benign as did my first biopsy, and even if it is cancer this time, I know that it is in the beginning stages and have a very high curable rate.

Hi,

I suppose you feel like this will be an ongoing problem because it's occurred twice!  I think your dr. is the best person to tell you if you can expect it to continue to recur and what lifestyle modifications you might be able to make to minimize calcifications.  And you're right, early stage breast cancer is very highly curable.  That's what they've told me!

Best wishes, let us know what happens.

Warmly,

Chris
