Microcalcifications and Hyperplasia

I had a partial mastectomy and radiation for breast cancer.  I had a lot of atypical hyperplasia and 2 very small IDC, tubullar, were removed with the surgery.  In the only mammogram since the surgery numerous clusters of microcalcifacations were seen in the opposite breast, only 1 large enough to biopsy and that was benign.  My radiaologist was alarmed by the clusters microcalcifations but my oncologist said we develop these as we age.  I am 50.
Should I be more proactive in seeking treatment for the microcalc?  I will have a mammogram in 6 mos.
I am having various chest and back pains, I attribute to the scarring and radiation damage.  Is this normal?
Thank you in advance!

You are evidently being followed rather closely which seems to be adequate. As far as the clusters of microcalcifiations ... they do occur normally within the breast tissue and do increase with age ... but NOT in clusters. It's when they are seen in groups or clusters they are a cause for concern. In these patterns they indicate that the breast tissue is reacting to some abnormality which is often a benign condition. They are usually biopsied to be sure. If you have any doubts I would suggest that you seek a second opinion from another Oncologist or Breast Surgeon. We should always keep asking until we are comfortable with the answers.  Regards ....
