Microcalcifications

Birad 3 Mammogram in March, 6 month follow up mammogram, radiologist and surgeon said slight change could be seen with 127% magnification (the tech doing the mammogram said she couldn't see any change) bottom line in for a stereotatic biopsy yesterday morning wasn't really uncomfortable at all, Dr told me at the time that when he injected the Lidacaine (sp?) it clouds your breast tissue and the calcifications were light and he questioned whether he got the sample he needed, went in this morning for the follow up mammogram, they just called the pathology report was negative but the mammogram (this morning) showed that they did not get a sample of what they needed so need to go back in three weeks.  Has this ever happened to anyone.  I have been on pins and needles for the past week now I have to wait for three more weeks and go through it all again.  Not complaining just somewhat confused.  Yes the surgeon is a very highly accredited!

Wow, Sandy, you've really had a rough time of it. I'm so sorry the second attempt wasn't successful. I'm hoping the excisional biopsy goes smoothly and wish you  a
quick recovery ( Mine were very easy, more soreness than pain after and minimal
scarring. I've mentioned here before that I went to a dance class the evening after the first one!) The worst part of the whole thing is teh wait for the results and I'm sorry you
have to go through all that again. Hang in there, girl, and try to stay positive. I'm wishing you benign results!
Hugs,
nc

Just thought I would let you know........

Went this morning for my repeat stereotatic AGAIN they just didn't know if they could get it they said it would "roll around" and they want to make sure so after the numbing and 14 films I am going to the OR tomorrow which is what I had suggested (after you reinforced it) in the first place.  Wish me luck, will send a message and let everyone know the outcome. Cheerio, Sandy

We'll be hoping an praying that the next biopsy does the trick, and that the results are good.

Best wishes...

I ask the surgeon about that and he said he really did not want to take a trip to the OR unless it was absolutely necessary.  Everyone says that the waiting is the hardest part, it is a shame that they couldn't have an on the spot pathologist to relieve some of the  anxiety out of the situation, plus there would be support people there to speak with.....I will do what I have to do and let all know of the outcome!

I'm so sorry your biopsy results were inconclusive and you have to go through it again.
I'm just wondering if they'll do an excisional biopsy now instead of trying to do stereotactic again? I had microcalcs and had excisional biopsy only. Actually, this was my third biopsy and all were excisional. My thinking was IF it is something, it'll have to be removed anyway, so why face two surgeries instead of just one? Fortunately my surgeon was in agreement with me each time. On the one for microcalcs, there were two areas, but the radiologist only suggested biopsy of one. I had both done and LCIS was found. It may have been found with just the one, but I don't know that for sure.
Because of your experience already, you may want to ask about excisional vs. needle/core this time if it hasn't already been planned---just a thought.
In any case, I hope you have an easy biopsy experience and benign results. Try not to worry too much, stay positive and take one day and one step at a time. Sending you a
big hug (     ),

Yes, unfortunately, while a needle or core biopsy is  likely to find its target when taking a sample from a tumor, it is more difficult to pinpoint very small lesions and microcalcs.

Sometimes a do-over is necessary.

I am sorry this happened with you. Even though you are not compaining, the additional wait-and-worry time is stressful!!

Best wishes...
