Microcalcifications

by Tucker1450, Aug 18, 2008 03:38PM
A mammogram showed that I had microcalcifications and I have been scheduled for a repeat mammo in 6 months.  I have now developed non-spontaneous nipple discharge (unilateral) and pain in the same breast with the microcalcifications.  Can the microcalcifications be related to the pain and nipple discharge?

The microcalcifications wouldn't cause any of the symptoms you described. Evidently the calcifications were not seen in a cluster or group since you were only advised to return for a repeat Mammogram in 6 months. They do occur normally in breast tissue but can indicate a problem when they are observed to be clustered or grouped in certain patterns. You might ask your Physician about these new symptoms. Mammograms can cause some pain in a few women but that usually subsides in a couple of days.  Regards ....
