Microcalcifications

by Lauriebell, Aug 20, 2008 09:56AM
I had a mammatone biopsy done 8/18 and will get the results today.  I have clustered microcalcifications.  They removed 10 in the biopsy.  It sounds like microcalcifications that are clustered are pretty high risk for cancer.  Is that true?

Thanks

I wouldn't say high risk but it's certainly a possibility. Clustered microcalcifications are an indication of the reaction of the breast tissue to an abnormality ... but not always cancer.

I know all the research I have done points to that also, but I don't think it has to be.  It depends on other factors as well.  I had the same thing and the biopsy showed abnormal cells and I have to have a lumpectomy and that way we will know if there is cancer.  The waiting is the worst.

Well it did turn out to be cancer.  DCIS.  So I go Friday to see the surgeon.

I am scheduled for a lumpectomy and I am hoping mine had not reached DCIS yet....good luck with your treatment. Did you have a lumpectomy to find this or was it from the small tissue sample ?

I am a few weeks ahead of you...surgery scheduled for the 29th.  Do as much reading as you can on Estrogen & Progesterone & HER2....whether they are positive or negative.  That seems to be the kicker in what treatments are available.  Good luck!

They found it with a biopsy with the mammatone machine.  Kathy how long did it take from the dx until they scheduled the surgery?

I was told it would take 1-2 weeks to schedule my surgery.
