Microcalcs

by cleomoon, Oct 08, 2008 05:24PM
I read somewhere that if you have a cluster of 10 or less microcalcs it is more likely to be benign.
Anyone know about whether this is accurate?

Thanks

I've spent the last couple of weeks doing research on microcalcifications and haven't come across anything like that.

Microcalcifications are not themselves cancer. They are found within the breast tissue normally scattered about. When they are found in groups or clusters (no matter the number) they are an indication of the reaction of the breast tissue to some abnormality within the breast. This abnormality is not always cancer but can also be due to some benign condition. Groups/clusters of calcifications are usually biopsied to determine the cause.   Regards .....
