Beck,
Whatever you do, KEEP that appointment. Get the biopsy right away. I had a friend who was diagnosed at the young age of 21, while in college. She found a lump and the local doctor, a WOMAN, told her she was "too young" to have breast cancer, that she shouldn't worry about it. My friend, unfortunately, listened to this doctor and went away to study abroad for 6 months in Mexico. About 4 months in to her time there, the lump grew alot and she went to see another doctor while there. That doctor confirmed that she DID indeed have cancer, and that it had grown significantly.
Needless to say, you can NEVER be TOO YOUNG to have breast cancer. Cancer strikes at any age, to any one, no matter race, creed, even gender. I've even heard of a 12 year old girl who had it.
As for the doctor who told you not to worry, they should have their license revoked. No doctor should ever disregard something as serious as cancer. I've spent the last 10 years telling everyone I know the name of the doctor who misdiagnosed my friend. We miss her everyday.
Please let us know how it turns out for you!
yea to second that mammo techs arent qualified. diagnostic radiographers or docs should read scans. 27s not that young, i dont get what their problem is with people being young anyways because b cancer can happen at any age, so saying its less likely doesnt really help.
ABSOLUTELY DO NOT cancel any appointment that has been recommended. Technicians are not qualified to dieagnose anything that is seen on films. A Radiologist will read your films and submit a detailed report to your Physician who in turn will explain it to you. Do not be confused and listen only to your Dr.s ..... You would not be the one to request a biopsy; this will be determined to be necessary / or not by the final reading of your films and not by a Technician. Neither test that you had can diagnose a breast concition .... this takes a biopsy unless it is determined by the Radiologist that a finding is definitely a cyst but even then a follow-up is recommended at an interval of a few months. You should contact whatever Dr. examined you and ordered your Ultrasound and ask for a detailed explanation of the final reports and follow whatever recommendation is made at that time. Regards .....
