Hi

My mom had a mastectomy and the cancer had sread to her lymph nodes. She is T1 N1 M0 and the cancer cells are grade 3. She is going to have 12 weeks chemo, 5 weeks radiation. Can you tell me if she has a chance of surviving this please? Can she beat this? What are the statistics please...

Dear mab:  Based on the information you provided, your mother has stage IIA disease, which is still considered early stage.  Her chances for beating this are good.  According to the American Joint Committee on Cancer Staging Manual, your mother's prognosis is similar to women who are node negative, putting her 5 year survival rate range(this is how it is measured)somewhere between 75% and 88%.
