Mondor's/IBC

Mondor's/IBC

I had an axillary biopsy 2 months ago and 2 weeks after that my breast on that side hurt and had cords running through it.  It hurts less, but the  cords are still there.  Ultrasound showed nothing, mammogram also.  Breast surgeon said it was Mondor's and definitely not inflammatory breast cancer.  I thought Mondor's showed on US and IBC did not, as in my case.  Am I wrong?  Is there anything else I should have done?  How can she be so sure just from looking at it which one it is?  What I read says they look the same, and that Mondor's is VERY rare.

Thanks for your responses.

I don't think Mondor's is as rare as presumed ... I do think that it is under-reported in many cases. I don't know why yours didn't show up on Mammo or US ....but I'm sure this can happen. The symptoms you describe do NOT match those of IBC so it's no surprise that your Dr. could diagnose Mondor's by sight alone. The usual treatment is over the counter pain medication and warm compresses ... it may take up to 6 weeks to resolve itself. It is simply Thrombophlebitis of the mammary region and often follows some type of breast related surgery.    Regards .....
