Montgomery gland pain

I am 20 weeks pregnant with my first child.  I am aware of the normal breast changes but have not read in any books about the Montgomery gland.  I have had some sharp pains in my left breast over the past couple weeks and today noticed that my areola is VERY swollan and itches.  Is this normal and what other symptoms can I expect?  When should I go see my Dr.?

Dear lawn 2424, There can be normal changes to the breasts during pregnancy.  The symptoms you describe are difficult to evaluate over the internet without ability to assess.  If this persists and/or you are concerned it is best to discuss with your doctor who can assess and evaluate for you.
