The reddness around the circumference of the tonsils has not gotten any better since the end of chemo. As a matter of fact the reddeness has spread the circumference of the back of my mouth. I do not have any pain but the white spots come and go.
I have been on antibiotics during the course of the white spots, this year for bronchitis and the antibiotics have cleared the white spots but the redness had never subsided. How can you have strep throat for almost a year? Is my immuno system down that much due to he chemo?
white spots could be due to yeast, which can occur after antibiotics as well as after chemo. It's usually fairly easy to clear up. It needs to be looked at to get an accurate diagnosis.
After completing my third cycle of AC, I developed a white coating on my tongue and on the back of my throat. My oncologist diagnosed "thrush" and said this was common on chemo. He gave me a prescription for Magic Mouthwash and also recommended I gargle with 1/4 tsp. baking soda and 1/4 tsp. salt dissolved in 8 oz. of warm water. Within 5 days, the thrush was gone.
