Moveable lump after FNA

Had 2 small cysts on of which was aspirated (complex) and an "area of question" (nothing ever confirmed). Moveable lump noticed about three days later and still persisting since mid April '05. I am being refered to a breast specialist with my ultrasound, mammos, aspiration findings. COuld cyst have returned and what would be my next step?

Dear ninnster:  It is theoretically possible for a cyst to reoccur.  However, any lump that can be felt requires further evaluation.  Without reviewing the mammogram, ultrasound, aspiration results and doing a clinical breast examination, it is impossible to speculate on what might be happening in your case.  The breast specialist should be able to review the information and provide you with appropriate "next steps."

Cysts can recur. Usually the next step would be to re-aspirate and see what's there. If it's typical clear yellow cyst fluid and the lump goes away, nothing more might be done. If it's not fluid, or if it's not the typical benign fluid, then removing the lump might be the best option. Assuming the aspiration is done, if no fluid is found, then it's likely the needle would be used to sample the tissue and have it looked at under the microscope: the findings would help determine the next step.
