Multiple Lumps

Hello & thank you in advance fo your reply.I am 48 ysr old & after finding a palable lump, I had a Diagnostic mammogram, Ultrasound and biopsies of my right breast, it is found that there are a number of solid masses, minimum of 4. The MD who performed the biopsie (CORE) said she believes that 2 of the 4 masses are satellites of the largest one which appears to be on the ultrasound aproximately 2+ cm. Both Radiologists who have performed these tests have indicated that they believe my situation is cancer and have scheduled an appintment with a surgeon  for consult even before they recieve pathology. Well this is of course alarming and too overwhelming to know all the questions I need to ask just yet,I have one question at this time, IF the results of the masses show malignancy, Does having so many lumps usually mean a masectomy is needed vs a lumpectomy?

Dear Poola:  Multiple masses, even if they are considered satellites of another larger mass, generally indicate the need for mastectomy.  A lumpectomy would NOT be the best option for this condition if the lumps are malignant.

Thank you for your immediate reply to my concern. I have since learned the results of my tests,Ductal Carcinoma said to be invasive? We meet with the surgeon for consult in the morning, My Primary MD said to be prepared for Pre-op Chemo & Radiation,as well as a Full? masectomy. So many questions , so little time , what a situation. Baby steps ,perhaps. Peace& Blessings to all of you.

Yesterday I went for an ultrasound, and I turned my head away from the screen after he got to the 9th lump in my left breast. I was looking for information on the Internet even before I've seen the doctor - wondering about multiple lumps. I somehow have the same feeling that I will be following your footsteps.
