Need answer tonite pleeeeeeeeeease...

Hello,
Let me start off by saying that I am 33 years old, mother of 4. I have no family history of cancer (that I know of). But I recently have noticed a couple of "lumps" in my breast which seem to change in size when I have my period. I got them checked out by my gyn. He says that they seem "cystic". Can anybody tell me what that means. He also scheduled me for a sonogram of the breast just to be sure. How accurate is a sono as opposed to a mammo?
My sono is tomorrow so ... If anybody can reply tonite, It would be greatly appreciated. Just so I can get soooome sleep tonite.
Thank you.

Hi.

Lumps that come and go in coincidence with the menstrual cycle are most likely benign lesions, such as fibrocystic disease or fibroadenoma.  This represents an unusual response of the breast tissues to changes in the female hormone levels during the monthly cycle.

Cysts mostly represent benign lesions, and differentiating between cysts and solid lesions is the specialty of the ultrasound and is really more accurate.

Even if only cysts are detected, it is still suggested that you keep on observing your breast and have regular follow ups with your doctors.

Regards.
