I'm looking for any help/advice that I can.  I've been in pain for 3 months now. I went to my ob/gyn and they examined me and sent me to get a mammogram and ultrasound on my left breast. The results came back fine.  I asked my doctor if I could have Inflammatory Breast Cancer and she said "No" and that there wasn't any way to be tested for it.  I also don't have the orange peel look and sometimes my nipple is inverted, but not consistently, so in my mind I've kinda ruled out IBC, but what if I have it?  Is a biopsy the only way I can find out? She referred me to a General Surgeon, my appt. is the 31st.  I don't know what is going on.  I have this horrible pain under my left nipple, even the lightest touch hurt it. It can be hot, at times, but not always, it radiates up around my nipple to under my armpit. So I assume this is the gland path. My ob/gyn suggested that I may have torn something inside my breast because I am a 46 DD and after having two kids, they just aren't how they should be. She thought the weight of them is what may be causing the pain, but wouldn't the tear show up on the scans?

My apologies that this is scattered. It's been going on for 3 months now and my mind is full of questions as you can imagine. I just don't know what to do, I don't know why I'm going to the General Surgeon. I have no idea what to even talk about while I'm there. It's all so confusing and I just want the pain to stop.

Thanks for your time.

Dear Gina, Breast pain is usually associated with a benign (non-cancerous) condition.  The immediate cause that comes to mind is some type of injury to the breast.   Sometimes breast pain is associated with hormonal variations and is called cyclical breast pain. With having the pain so localized (the area immediately under the nipple) it may be the surgeon can help to evaluate it further.  They would review your films, do an exam and possibly see if they can locate the problem, thus moving closer to being able to treat this.

i read your letter and it sounds a lot of what i am going through. I have an area about a half inch above my nipple that is sore to the touch. My pain is also under my breast to my ribs. I don't go to my OB/Gyn until next week. My left breast feels fuller than my right as well. I went to my Family doctor and he tgought i had pulled a muscle but the medicine he put me on didn't help. Just yesterday the soreness on my breast started and i am really scared about this. i am only 33 years old. Does any of the other symptoms i described sound like what u have??Thanks.
