Nipple Abrasion and Subsequent Breast pain

I am a 35-year old female with prior history of lymphoblastic leukemia when I was 18. Remission was in 1992. I experienced intense itchiness in my right nipple 2 nights ago and while sleeping I absent-mindedly rubbed my nipple with the woolen blanket to ease the itch.  I woke up with occasional intense burning itch in my areola area.  There was also stabbing pain from the right breast.  Some of the Montgomery Tubercles in my areola are raised and are painful when pressed.  There is also pain when I press my nipple down.  Today I discovered that there are tiny dark scabs on the surface of the Montgomery Tubercles and are 14 in total.  Yesterday I only noticed a faint 1 scab. My breast is still uncomfortable with stabbing pain or when I lift my arm and shift position.  I don't know what caused the itchiness and have been putting petroleum jelly on the scabs with a cotton gauze.  When lifting the gauze I see tiny yellow discharge from the scabs.

I am very worried about the pain, not only under the skin but also from deep in the breast.  My left breast is completely normal.  Is this an onset of Paget's Disease?  Should I have a skin puncture test? Please help.

Dear snh1113:  Without examination it is not possible for us to speculate on the problem.  It could have been a "one time" incident or it could be some other skin ailment.  Since you are concerned, it seems reasonable to have a doctor examine you and make an appropriate diagnosis and recommendation for treatment.
