Nipple Problem

Nipple Problem

About 2 1/2 mos ago I noticed that the nipple on my left breast had a white discoloration on it.  I thought perhaps it was a pimple and would go away.  Well, it hasn't gone away.  I have an appointment with my GYN on Monday to get it checked.  I've done some checking on the internet and it seems like Paget's Disease of the nipple seems to fit.  I know I shouldn't have read it, but I want to be prepared if necessary.  I'm 44 and want to know what I can expect with this Drs. visit?  If I had my routine mammogram in January, would I need to have it redone so a comparison could be made?  I'm just a worry wart!

Dear De-De:  Paget's disease usually appears as a scaley, itchy sore on the nipple.  Its appearance is similar to eczema.  You are doing the right thing by having your doctor examine the spot.  If he is concerned, he may recommend a mammogram and he may recommend a biopsy of the spot.  Please realize that the nipple is just like any other skin on your body - it can get any of a variety of skin problems.  A blemish on the nipple does not necessarily mean paget's.

Went to the Drs. this morning, he told me it was an occlusion cyst and removed it in the office.  He indicated that it may never return or it could come back and removal could be done by me by applying hot compresses and gently squeezing.  He showed it to me, it was a white lump.  He also assured me that it wasn't cancer.  Thank God!
