Nipple itchness

Im a divorcee aged 46, recently feeling itchnes on both my breasts...is it due to the onset of menopause coming soon? Your reply is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi there.

There can be several causes to this itchiness.  It may be possible that this itchiness can indeed be due to menstrual changes that is causing some dryness on the skin overlying the breast.  A fungal infection can also be possible and this should be diagnosed first through a KOH smear (to be performed by a dermatologist) and treated with topical antifungals.  Contact dermatitis which can cause by irritants from objects in contact with the breasts (such as the bra) can also be the cause.  I suggest that you have this looked at by your doctor or a dermatologist.   Regards.
