Nipple lump

by dolphingirl1916, Mar 28, 2008 04:32AM
I have a lump on the top of my nipple that has a white discharge coming out of it that almost reminds me of silly string. I have had it going on a year now and it will not go away. I have not seen a doctor for it but I have been on several antibiotics for other things and still it doesnt go away. Every day I get that "silly string" discharge out of it. The only other symptom I have is that nipple has a lot of peeling on it. I have had a total hysterectomy and I take 2 types of estrogen. If anyone has any idea what this could be, I would appreciate the help.

Hi,

What is your age?

The nipple discharge and lump could be due to the estrogen you are taking.

You would have to see your doctor and get a mamogram (mammogram) and ultrasound done. Only then alongwith a clinical examination can the cause and diagnosis be established.

If your doctor thinks it necessary, the discharge would also be sent for a lab analysis.

A nipple discharge is significant and needs to be investigated further if it -
- is persistent,
- comes out without squeezing the breasts or any stimulation,
- is bloody or foul smelling or altered,
- is associated with a lump, nipple or skin changes etc.

Have you noticed any abnormal features on breast self examination like a breast lump, nipple discharge , skin changes etc?

Do let us know if you have any more doubts and keep us posted on how you are doing.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.
