Nipple pain

Nipple pain

Well about a year ago I stopped breastfeeding my infant because I had to go back to work. But the uncomfortable nipple pain and tenderness is still there. And from time to time I have some discharge.  I thought that it was that I still had some milk left over from breastfeeding but why does it hurt?  And should I be worried that it could be breast cancer??

Hi,
You are probably right. It looks like a clogged milk duct. You need to get a clinical evaluation done to be absolutely sure. You could try breast massage, milking the breast, warm compressus and wear lose clothes. These should help. If the pain still persists you need to consult your physician to rule out other causes like superadded infection etc. The chances that this is breast cancer are minimal. Goodluck.
