Nodular Density Mammogram

Nodular Density Mammogram

My mammogram report stated " ON THE MLO VIEW OF THE LEFT BREAST IS AN ENLARGING NODULAR DENSITY IN THE LOWER HEMISPHERE.  THIS APPEARS TO BE AT THE 7 O'CLOCK POSITION.
IMPRESSION:  ENLARGING NODULAR DENSITY IN THE LEFT LOWER HEMISPHERE SPOT COMPRESSION VIEWS AND ULTRASOUND RECOMMENDED.
BI-RADS CATEGORY 0.  NEED ADDITIONAL EVALUATION.
I was only able to get an apoointment with a breast specialist on Aug 22nd.  Should try to get in earlier. What does this all mean? Any help would be appreciated.  I do not feel any lumps but where exactly is 7 oclock position. Looking at the breast or from the breast out? Thanks

Dear bellachild:  The use of the clock to describe locations within the breast is based on looking at the breast, with 12 being at the top, 6 at the bottom, and 3 and 9 on the sides when looking at the breast from the observers standpoint (not the patient's).  It is not uncommon for a mammogram to identify an abnormality.  It is an indication for further evaluation.  This could be as simple as tissue that may have folded over on itself that will flatten out upon a spot compression (a mammogram that focuses on the area of concern).  This special mammogram will help determine whether this is an abnormality that requires further evaluation.
