Norplant implant

I received a norplant with 6 rods in my left arm in 1992. I had them removed in 1997. The Dr couldn't find the 6th rod so left it in my arm and said it wouldn't hurt anything. I had a mammogram 2 weeks ago and they found a suspicious mass under my left arm and the Dr asked me if I had a port under my arm or if I had swallowed a nickel or if I had ever had gold treatments. I have never had any of these. My question is, is it possible my norplant rod could have traveled to under my arm and be stuck there? I'm sure the Dr has seen many tumors and masses and not sure why he was asking me these type of questions. He should know what a mass or tumor looks like. I seen the ultrasound they did on my breast and it looked like a long thin black line.  I'm scheduled to have surgery on July 22 to have whatever it is removed and biopsied. Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Had my surgery Tuesday and went in for results today. Good news! It's not cancer. It also wasn't my norplant. It ended up being a benign enlarged lymph node. Just wanted to let you know :)

Thanks for replying. I will definitely let you know what they find. I forgot to tell the Dr about my lost norplant rod because I had completely forgot about it until a friend asked me about it yesterday. I'm hoping and praying that it is the rod and not cancer. I was just curious as to whether the rod could possibly travel around like that. Will keep you updated :)

It certainly sounds like your theory might be correct about the norplant. I can't think of anything associated with breast cancer appearing the way you have described. I'm as curious about it at this point as you .... PLEASE get back to us when the mystery object is removed.   Kindest regards ....
