Not really breast cancer, but sort of relevant...

I was recently diagnosed with eczema on my right nipple. It is not itchy, but it is painful. My skin doesn't look really bad, but it doesn't look completely healthy and normal, and the appearance hasn't gotten worse, but it hasn't gotten better either. If it has, only so slightly. The small wounds on the nipple(which aren't really bad, but still,) haven't really healed. I have used steroid creams, but of course, those don't really last long, and my skin seems unresponsive to both steroids, and anti fungal creams. Also, the periods of time when I feel good, don;t last long, and although I feel good, I don't feel 100% normal, like I was before this whole thing happened. So, would it be valid to get a nipple reconstruction surgery, so I can start again with "new skin" or would  that do nothing for me?

Trust me, you did fine. In fact much better than some adults we see here. That's why I had no idea about your age. Looking forward to hearing some results soon.  Hang in there ... there is a solution for everything.

Thank you! It's ok, I understand. I probably didn't word the original question correctly. Thanks so much :-)

HI, I'm glad to hear your Mom is involved and I hope you didn't think I seemed harsh in asking all the questions about it. It's difficult over the internet when you can't get immediate responses or see the person to understand completely. I still think the best treatment should come from the Dermatologists. I don't know where you live but  a Hospital connected with a University is another possibility where a solution might be found as "Teaching Hospitals" are more apt to be doing research in areas of difficult situations. We here would be very interested in hearing what opinion you receive from the Breast Specialist. Even though it has no connection with Breast Cancer I find it very interesting.  Thanks for the additional info and once again we wish you all the BEST .....

PS: We also decided to take this appointment, because my dermatologist (who is very good,) hasn't seen many cases like this, and I also figured that there was some doctor out there who deals with breasts, and any problems they may have, and because my pediatrician suggested it, after giving some creams that didn't work...

Yes, my mom knows about the whole situation, and we go to every doctor. She actually looks for, and asks people about who we could go and see, and what we could do.She was there when my pediatrician told us that I should make an appointment with the breast surgeon. About the surgery that I asked about, I haven't actually seen the breast surgeon yet, but I will (with my mom,) I was just thinking of things that he or she will think of, and I thought about that surgery. I'm not doing it, but I just thought of it, thinking maybe it would be one of the things that the surgeon would recommend. The thing is I am very desperate, giving that this problem has affected me, and no one has been able to come up with a solution that will keep me comfortable and stable for a long time, not even the dermatologist. Anyway, I'll try to find an answer. Thank you!

I wish you had revealed your age when you posted the first time. I think if you had I would have referred you back to your Dermatologist OR ask that you had your Mother post. You are way too young to be making this type of decision. Does you Mom know that you posted this question and does she go to all of your appointments with you ??? Adult supervision is definitely needed for issues of this type. You do know that you are not legally able to make such decisions, right ?? It just seems a drastic measure for any type of eczema as this is a non-curable chronic condition although it can be treated rather successfully. The solution would still lie in the hands of a Dermatologist in my opinion.   Take care ....

Thank you. :-) The only reason I ask is because I've seen many doctors (endocrinologists, two dermatologists, allergsts, acupuncturist,) and my pediatrician (I'm 14,) said "you should see a breast surgeon," because the type of "eczema" I have is kind of unresponsive to any creams, and it's not at all itchy just painful. I have an appointment with this breast surgeon soon, and I just want to prepare myself for what solutions her or she Amy have. Thank you anyway!

Of course your health and the way you choose to handle it is completely up to you BUT I doubt you could find a plastic Surgeon who would do a procedure of this type for the reason you state. Eczema is something that is not curable but certainly treatable and very often quite manageable. I'm thinking you are seeing a Dermatologist regarding the problem; if not you should be. Eczema like Psoriasis can "flare" due to stress and it seems from your post that this may well be a factor in your situation. Please check the Med Help home page for a Forum or Community that deals with skin conditions and post your concerns there. As you know we here are pretty much Breast Cancer ONLY but we're glad to help if and when we can. Best wishes and stick with the treatment plans and follow the advice of your Physicians.   Regards ....
