Ovaries removed

Ovaries removed

I am a five-year survivor who has just gone off the Tamoxifen.  I seems that I am not through menopause.  Because of that, since I got my period, they want to remove my ovaries.  It seems like I don't get clear cut answers regarding this.  I ask my OB and he just says, if that's what the oncologist says, we can do it.  I do remember once him saying don't remove anything that isn't broken.

I don't know whether to do this or not.  The oncologist wants to remove the ovaries and put me on another medication that may have worse side effects.  I don't know whether to do this or just take the risk.  I gained a lot of weight on Tamoxifen and other stuff.  My knees hurt.  It seems they are vague on whether this new treatment really means anything or is of any benefit.

Has anyone gone through this, had thier ovaries removed?  I have to make this decision.  I really don't want to but then I don't want to die or have BC come back either.

Thanks.
Dee

I think perhaps a second opinion from another Oncologist might be of some value to you in making this decision. Most of the drugs used following Tamoxifen therapy have the same side effects but some to a lesser degree. I don't believe that we should have to make these decisions alone; I'd get a second opinion if it were left up to me under the same circumstances.  Regards ....
