Overexposure to radiation from mammograms

Hi I am 25 years old and found a lump in my breast.

As a result I had to go to the radiologist 3 different times where they took many many mammograms. One time there was something wrong with the machine, the technician didn't know what she was doing and they took about 19 slides. Everything came back benign once it was biopsied Thank God but I'm still very concerned bc of everything I hear about mammograms.

I was wearing my rings when I had the mammograms taken, I have sharp pain in the right side of my chest where the pictures were concentrated and a small circular burn mark on the right side of my stomach. Are any of these a result of too much radiation? Does my jewelery intensify or keep radiation?

Is there anything I can do now after the fact to minimize the effects? Do dairy products help? What are the effects? My husband and I were going to try and have a baby, will it have any affect on the baby? ( i am not currently pregnant)

Any information a doctor can provide will be very appreciated I have been worried sick about this thank you,

Dear ariana24:  The amount of radiation from mammograms is considered very minimal especially when considering the risk of undetected cancer.  Jewelry has no impact on radiation. None of the symptoms you mention are likely from radiation.  As your ovaries received no radiation, there is no risk to a pregnancy from a mammogram.

Thank you for your response.

I realize that mammograms are more beneficial in finding breast cancer but when I had an excessive amount performed in such a short period of time what are the potential effects?

Is this something I should be concerned about? Is there anything I can do to minimize the effects?

Thanks Again,
Ariana
