PICC LINE Insertion Complications
Hi
I went in yesterday to have a Picc Line Inserted and the nurse could not penetrate my vein even though she said it was a very good looking vein. I layed on the bed for 1 1/2 hours while she tried every angle to get in in.
I was supposed to get chemo yesterday and it was delayed to this Thursday because a Radiologist is going to try and insert a Picc line today,
Has anyone with breast cancer had trouble with PICC line insertion.

Hi Zouzi!
Well I was in emergency alst night as my picc line is bleeding, so they did an INR and coagulation test whch turned out fine, changed the dressing and lo and behold, it is bleeding again. Well now, I am just going to wait until Monday to see the Chemo nurse and she can change the dressing again and go from there. The ER doctor was actually going to polysporin on it and a pressure bandage. The nurse that changed the dressing said absolutely not to do that to a picc line! anyhoo! Blah!
But I am staying positive and all will turn out great in the end!

Oh my gosh!,I can just imagine what you went through with the PICC procedure!...It must have been terrible and my heart goes out to you.
Thank goodness it's over now and no more vein poking that caused you so much pain.

No problem with the name? you could call me anything righ now, it wouldn't matter!
Had my picc line put in yesterday and again they had problems even with a radiologist doing it! My basilic veins collasped when he when in there. He could now understand why they had problems the first time. He then went into my brachial vein, hit a nerve which produced an electrical shock in my hand just like if I put my hand in an electrical socket outlet! My arm wnet shooting up and I ahve to admit I screamed!
My arm and my hand went completely numb! I couldn't squeeze my fist or move my arm. Fortunatley aftr 4 hours, all feeling came back.
Then went for chemo and I have to say at that point, I was so thankful that I ahd the Picc line, no more pokes!
Anyhoo hope you are doing well! Have a nice day!
I am back to the hopsital tis morning for dressing change on the Picc line

Hopefully, the radiology department will have better success with my veins.,
My chemo keeps getting delayed, the first 2 times by a week because of low WBC counts and then this time because of inability to access my veins.
Also, have you ever heard of weakening Chemo by 25%. Because of the continued WBC, they are now giving me 75% strength of chemo. With Triple Negative breast Cancer, grade 3, I was worried that the strength of chemo they are now giving me wouldn't do its job, but my Oncologist said that it will? She is probably right, but I am feel insecure that it won't!

So sorry that the nurse had so much trouble inserting the PICC!
Obviously she was not experienced enough to complete the job.
I hope that the radiologist was successful today and that everything went smoothly.
Having the PICC inserted is the best thing to do to avoid having pain in your veins each time you receive your chemo treatments.
