Paget's disease- NO one knows about it!!

Since paget's disease is a very rare form of breast cancer, not many doctors have seen it . So their awareness might depend on what they have learnt at college. Specially in countries where medicine is an issue. What are the basics that a person needs to know wrt paget's disease. Would a FNAB rule out paget's disease? Would an U/S do? How long can paget's disease be sleeping before it aggravates?  Is there any known duration before it starts progressing?

Over 95% of patients with Paget's disease of the nipple have an underlying cancer, usually DCIS.  Early symptoms do look like eczema of the nipple.
There is lots of info on the internet about it.

I am experiencing a white thickening on my nipple head, it is not a discharge. It seems as if blood vessels that tighten up when I shower they turn pink and when normal my nipple would be stiff while erect and would have this white head, and disappears when I shower. I also exerienced that both areolas are making a dry skin that peals, after using oil it disappeared. My nipple seems very puffy for a year till now, and although I went to different doctors they say it is bengin and is infection or aczema. I just want to have the comfort that I am on the right track.

Hi,

From your description it looks to be 'eczema', but nothing can be said with surety without having a look at the lesions.

What is your age? Have you consulted a breast specialist or skin specialist?

Were any medications prescribed? You should keep the area clean and well moisturized.

Have you noticed any abnormal features on breast self examination like breast lump, nipple discharge or skin changes, etc?

Has a mammogram or ultrasound been done?

You are doing right by following up with your doctor regularly. Has paget's disease been ruled out?

Let us know about how you are doing and if you have any more doubts.

Regards.
