Paget's?

Paget's?

Please can a doctor answer this question in reguard to my previous question on Paget's? My systems looked EXACTLY like pictures I've seen of 1st stage Paget's breast cancer. My symptoms are completely gone in only a few days. My question is: in your experience, have you ever seen this happen before? Or, is this a common "look" when the lymphatics of the breast are infected just by something else as well? Is that possible? I have had a sinus infection for a month now. It is almost completely gone, but... It was on the same side as the breast that inflamed. So, can ANY infection cause the breast to do this, AS WELL as cancer? Thank you for taking the time......Makayla

Hi,
Paget's is usually progressive and has an underlying breast cancer. It does not recede under normal circumstances and is not self limiting. What you still need to do is consult a physician to clear all your doubts. It most probably is a benign condition or skin rash like condition.

thank you. I do have an appt tomorrow. I live in a small town where the dr's havent seen much rarities. So I'd like to be as prepared tomorrow as I possibly can with info on this. I will most likely have to be the one to insist on an extra mamogram (mammogram) (I get one yearly already) and also insist on an ultrsound. I think he will take one look at my breast and think I'm crazy. There's nothing there now. But I absolutely refuse to ignore what I saw and felt only 1 week ago. This is why I'm asking these questions. Thank you for taking the time with me. Makayla

Hi,
Do a mammogram to clear your doubts.Usually Paget's will follow an underlying breat cancer.
Please consult a surgeon, a physical examination by a surgeon will help in the exact diagnosis.
Goodluck.

I know it has been a while since your post, but I had to respond.  I hope your breast has cleared up, but if it has not go and have it checked AGAIN.  I had a sore that my Dr said was dermititis and sent me home after a mammo came back clear -- said I was cancer free.  Called and said no better he said to keep using cream and if no better in 6 mo come back.  4 mo later I could not stand it and went back and demanded a biopsy... guess what!!! Paget's Disease just as I had inquired about in June.  Come to find out, Paget's is NOT detectable by mammo and only biopsy can confirm and MRI will show.  Thankfully I am post mastectomy (double) and cancer free with no chemo, but this was a painful and terrifying experience.  Stay on top of this and if it does not completely go away, stay on top of your Dr.  Demand a biopsy.  Mine would flair up and go way for 3 weeks or more and come back worse than before.  Good Luck and God Bless

Thank you for sharing that with me! Mine is completely cleared up and may have been some kind of infection but I will keep watching just in case. I sure had never seen anything like that on my body before. My dr says if it returns, dont wait for an appt. Just go right on in and he'll check and then send me on to the specialist chain of command. He's good like that. If that does happen I will demand a biopsy right away, based on your experience. I'm glad you are alive. Thank you! Makayla

Hi,

That's good news on the lesion clearing up and also you being reassured by your doctor. The important thing is to maintain a good personal hygiene and to wear lose clothes. This helps in the prevention of any friction or rub injury to the skin, which could then later on become secondarily infected.
Do get your annual mammograms as usual and continue with the regular breast self exams and a clinical evaluation maybe once in six months. Report any abnormal symptoms, just like your doctor has advised to him/ her immediately.
Also try some steam inhalation and saline nasal drops if the sinus infection you mentioned in your previous post is still persistent. That should help.
Hope this helps. Goodluck.
