Pain after breast cyst aspiration

I has a large cyst aspirated three weeks ago. I watched it collapse on the ultrasound a it was aspirated. I had immediate relief from the discomfort as it had gotten so sizeable but now , three weeks later, I am still having discomfort in exactly the same site. It's as though the cyst were still there and engorged. The Dr. was unconcerned by the fluid that was extracted but sent it out for analysis just to be sure. The results were negative for malignant cells. Why would I still be having pain three weeks later?

Cysts are fluid filled sacs. When this fluid is aspirated, the sac is still left behind, and this might again accumulate fluid in the future unless the sac is removed. It can also be that the aspiration may have caused some damage to some nerves. An infection of the area should also be ruled out and treated with antibiotics if necessary. I suggest you show this again to your doctor to have this evaluated. If he thinks this is an infection then he may recommend a course of antibiotics. If the cyst has refilled with fluid, I suggest you discuss with him regarding excision of the entire cyst including the sac.
