Pain in armpit

For about 2-1/2 months now, I have had a sore, tender feeling in my left armpit - I feel it at various locations throughout the armpit.  There are no lumps or swellings -- other than my usual ones I've had for years.  I went to my GP about a month ago for it, and she said she did not feel anything either except for some fibrocystic tissue.  She said she was not concerned and we would watch it for a while.  While it is better some days, for the most part, it is pretty constant.  Better when lying down or sleeping.  

Any ideas on what this could be?  Of course, I'm thinking breast cancer, but I understand that pain is not typically indicative of BC.  However, are there any other suggestions?

Since you have seen your Dr. about this and she expressed no concern I can't really offer much else. You might consider a second opinion if you aren't comfortable with what you've been told up to this point. I wouldn't be thinking breast cancer but you might request an Ultrasound of the area if this continues to worry you. You don't state your age so I don't know if you have regular Mammograms and/or Ultrasounds.  Regards ....

There can be pain with breast cancer.  

A breast specialist should be your second option if you are still not comfortable with changes you are seeing.
