Pain in my breast

In December 2007 I had a lumpectomy followed by 34 sessions of Radiotherapy.  In December last year I was told I was clear but to continue taking Tamoxifen.  For three weeks I have had a horrible sharp pain in my left breast which comes and goes.  I am too frightened to go to the doctor, partly because in the back of my mind I feel it's just me feeling pain because I have a low pain threshold.My husband wants me to go to the surgery tomorrow, Monday.  I am a teacher in a college ( I have been there 6 weeks. Human Resources know my medical history, but I don't want my colleagues to know, I'm too embarrassed), so I have a pretty full day.  Can someone out there please tell me if this pain is normal. There is no discharge, but the breast feels hot and swollen.

Dear tigger522, Over the internet it is impossible to say what is causing your symptoms.  Pain, heat, swelling could be symptoms of many things - including infection.  It is best to proceed with having this checked out.
