Thanks, and yes its been a whilte :) It didnt hurt until about a month ago I think, at least it didn't bother me.
Jannonnoa....I had a lumpectomy while awake, it was in my nipple so thats really all I can offer. I had the same phobia and requested to be awake.......the last time they had too much to remove and so they put me under.
I have nothing in the way of any additional advice but I did want to say HI .... and good to hear from you again; it's been awhile.
Hi Madge,
It's been so long since we heard from you...I haven't forgotten how kind you were to me when I first joined this Forum...and you were also the first to respond to my post.I would like to reiterate my thanks to you.
I have found this information for you and I hope that it can help ease your worries.I also hope that you are been checked regularly by your doctor and discussed with him/her about this pain you are experiencing.
..........................................................
PAIN AFTER LUMPECTOMY.
This is not an uncommon problem. It's a common phenomenon in at least 25 percent of women.Generally, when they have this syndrome, women will feel a lot of pain, numbness, and burning under the armpit and across the chest. Most of the time this occurs because of injury to a nerve. Commonly, there's a nerve called the Intercostal Brachial nerve, which is injured during surgery.
These sensations can last for a long period of time, and can actually occur anywhere from weeks after the surgery itself, to years later. Women who experience this pain should be seen in a pain center, because there are some nerve blocks that can be done. In particular, one that is sometimes helpful would be the Stellate Ganglion Block, which would be done by an anesthesiologist trained in pain medicine.
The other thing worth thinking about and considering ,would be acupuncture, many women seem to find relief rather quickly.
Wishing you all the best Madge..
Hi,
Can lumpectomy be done under local anesethia or simple mastectomy. I have very very small breasts. I have a mass that is less than 5 cm in size localized right underneath the nipple. I have anesethia phobia and I am far below under weight. Although my blood tests, cardiac and other tests or all good. But I have serious issues with phobia. Have you ever heard that the suregy sometimes can be done under local anesethia?
I read many articles in the internet and it says it can.
also that breast is heavier than the other, you can see the difference easily. I was told I was one step away from cancer the last time so maybe I am paranoid.
