Painful/Swollen Lymph Node?

i haven't been to a doctor, due to lack of money, but there is a lump beneath the skin of my armpit, not attached to the skin. it first started when my arms were really itchy, i was itchy a lot, i thought it was from the change in deodorant. then my left armpit, a little bit lower, but not leveled with my breast, it started to become really sore and when i touched it, it was there. it's about the size of a half-dollar and extremely painful when touched. the pain radiates sometimes, down my arm and sometimes in my left breast. i had been taking an anti-biotic for my throat. i had to take again before the cold had easily come back a few weeks later.

i have an anxiety disorder and i have been freaking out over the possibilities or if it'll ever go down or go away.

please help!

Hi,

A mammogram means taking xrays for the breast region to see for any abnormal lesions or calcifications etc.

An ultrasound is an examination using ultrasound waves, using a probe the doctor will examine the breast region for whether the lesion is solid or cystic one.

You should get a clinical examination done by a doctor to find out the probable causes.

Do not worry and discuss this in detail with your doctor.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.

Hi,

The lesions that you describe are enlarged lymph nodes only - felt due to an infectious cause most probably.

Are you still shaving, waxing or using a deodarant?

It woould be advisable to discontinue these for some time and then see  if the lump or lymph nodes reappears.

It would also be best to take another course of antibiotics in consultation with your physician to take care of any residual infection.

You could take some pain relief medications in case of pain.

What is your age? Has a mammogram or USG been done?

Do keep us posted about your health.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.

Hi i have had this kind of case 4 months back which i alao tout it was caused due to change in my deodorant. I was usin a roll on for years same brand, i decided to change to spray all of sudden....wen usin the spray i spray my armpit so close, after some time my both armpits starts iching to the highest degree, i usually pull off my shirt to scratch my armpits to get relief....after sum days it stopped, then i noticed a lump which started like a pimple but grows a little bit after some days and its very painful. After consulting a doctor he told me that it might be due to so much scratch taht i had for my armpits then prescribed some antibiotic. Some days after it disappears and then the left develops another painful lump which suddenly disappears after weeks. So my question is that what is the difference between swollen lymph nodes(tender, painless) and this enlarged nodes what are the possible causes? Am i at a risk of any infection? Am a little bit worried.. What do u suggests?

Hi,

Yes, shaving could be a definite cause.

I think you should avoid it for some time.

Take some pain relief medication, if there is any pain associated.

The swelling should subside in some time.

If it still persiste , consult your doctor.

Keep us posted.
Regards.

I continued to shave, which I guess I'll avoid for a bit. I haven't used deodorant, because I thought that was the cause of it.  I'm eighteen years old.

thank you very much, it has calmed me a bit.  hopefully it'll go away!

it's a real pain.

Hi,

Do you still use a deodarant? What is your age?

An armpit lump is usually associated with benign infectious conditions seen secondary to shaving, waxing or using a depdarant.

These are actually enlarged lymph nodes.

Itching in your arms also points towards some thing irritating your arm region - which could also cause lymph node enlargement.

You should avoid waxing , shaving, using a deodarant for some time and see if the lump subsides.

If not, it would be advisable to get a clinical examination done.

You need not worry too much about this.
Keep us posted about your progress.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.
